Zimbabweans joined the global community yesterday in celebrating Mother’s Day, a day dedicated to honouring mothers and the profound influence they have in people’s lives.
Many took to social media to express their love and appreciation for their mothers.
Some shared heartfelt messages, while others posted videos and images of their mothers receiving gifts.
One user on X remarked, “A happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing women holding families together out there.”
Another user noted that a popular local restaurant was fully booked as people celebrated their mothers.
“Three Monkeys is fully booked for Mother’s Day, so some people have to wait at the outdoor tables until a spot opens up inside. I don’t mind sitting outside — it gives me a chance to enjoy my tea, the sunshine, and catch up on some reading and writing.”
In an interview yesterday, Mr Nigel Hara, who makes canvasses and portraits, said he had recorded brisk business throughout the week as people made Mother’s Day orders.
“Mukoma (my brother), since Monday last week, I was getting at least 13 clients a day who were making Mother’s Day-related orders, so I am very happy.
“I even ended up becoming my own client as I also made a canvas for my mother,” he said with a chuckle.
A florist in Harare’s CBD, who preferred anonymity, said business had been good as people started buying Mother’s Day flowers from Saturday afternoon until the end of the day yesterday.
“People were coming to buy all sorts of flowers for their mothers and it was very good for me as a business person because the more people come to buy from me, the more money I make,” she said.
Mother’s Day is a celebration that honours mothers, the maternal bonds, and the vital role they play in society.
The date of the celebration varies across the globe, with most countries observing it in March or May. On this day, mothers traditionally are showered with gifts and celebrated by their families.
