Heath Streak Academy clinch Old Mutual Cup

HOSTS Heath Streak Old Mutual Multisports Academy were crowned this year’s champions of the Old Mutual cup for primary schools in Bulawayo after overpowering Mgiqika Primary School by a magnificent 65 runs in the final yesterday.

Addressing the crowd after the tournament, guest of honour Lilian Mubaiwa from Old Mutual said the aim of her organisation was to give youngsters a chance to shine.

“Giving children the opportunity to excel through sports is our main aim. Besides cricket, we have a rugby development programme across the country, supporting children who don’t know much about rugby to excel too,” she said.

Mubaiwa also applauded girls who took part in the tournament. Participants were awarded with medals, and the winners walked away with a trophy. Mgiqika, who won the Chairman’s trophy played in honour of the chairman of the Academy, Eliphas Mashaba recently, were also presented with a trophy.

SOS-Hermann Gmeiner also took part in the tournament that included hordes of schools from both eastern and western suburbs in the city.
