Chiredzi Town Council has temporarily shelved civil works on its road rehabilitation programme following recent heavy rains. Council has set aside funds for road rehabilitation. Council chairman Councillor Gibson Hwende told The Herald yesterday it was impossible to rehabilitate the roads at the moment due to rains.
“We are very much delighted that our contracted company, Tensor, moved on site a few weeks ago and has started rehabilitating the 4.7km West Road.
“We want to tell our residents that construction work has stopped after the town received heavy rains last week and experts in road rehabilitation said they cannot carry out civil works under the current conditions,” he said.
Cllr Hwende said residents were complaining over the poor state of roads in the town.
“We want to assure residents that we will do a very good job in refurbishing damaged roads and we want to ensure that these roads are done to acceptable stands,” he said.
Chiredzi Residents and Rate Payers Association Chairman Mr Jonathan Muusha said residents had confidence in the newly elected councillors.
“Good roads are every resident’s expectation. We want the new councillors to prove that they are different from the previous team,” said Mr Muusha.
