Heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast across several provinces in Zimbabwe this week.
While the rains will be welcome, the Meteorological Services Department has urged people to take precautions to stay safe.
According to the Met Department, localised heavy rain is likely today in the three Mashonaland provinces, Harare Metropolitan, Matabeleland North, northern parts of Midlands, and Manicaland.
“Scattered thunderstorms are anticipated in the afternoon, with partly cloudy and mild conditions in the morning,”said the department in a statement.
In contrast, the Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and southern parts of Midlands are expected to experience partly cloudy and mild weather in the morning, turning hot and mostly cloudy by the afternoon, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.
The forecast repeats the standard warnings that the public is strongly advised to seek proper shelter during thunderstorms and to avoid crossing flooded rivers and low-lying bridges as safety remains a top priority during these conditions.
Looking ahead, tomorrow will also see the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in Masvingo, northern Mashonaland West, and Midlands.
On Monday, widespread thunderstorms affected the country, with the highest recorded rainfall amounts reaching 37mm in Chipinge, followed by 36mm in Lupane and 33mm in Makoholi. Other notable figures included 30mm in Chisengu, and 27mm in West Nicholson.
