Hefty salary for new Chiefs coach

TUNISIAN-BELGIAN coach Nasreddine Nabi’s arrival at Kaizer Chiefs will come with a handsome salary that will take him top of the ladder in what coaches in the DStv Premiership earn every month.

Nabi is due to take over at Chiefs upon the completion of his duties at FAR Rabat, where he has an outstanding cup final against Raja Casablanca to play.

The 58-year-old has activated his release clause at the Moroccan club by agreeing to pay two months’ worth of his salary as compensation.

This translates to e60 000 (approximately R1,17 million). Nabi signed a two-year deal with the army club when he joined them in July 2023 after a successful spell with Young Africans in Tanzania, where he won six trophies in two years. In moving to Chiefs, Nabi will improve what will be his monthly gross earnings by figures of about 33,5 percent. This will take him up to a gross of e40 000 (about R783 000).

These are monthly earnings that will push Nabi into the top tier of earners in the DStv Premiership.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has a gross monthly salary that has been reported to be in the region of just over R600 000 before bonuses. Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is floating at figures well below Mokwena, but far much better than what any other coach in the league, who include Gavin Hunt and Steve Komphela, earns.

The league’s lowest earners are Phuti Mohafe of Polokwane City and Moroka Swallows’ Musa Nyatama. — kick-off.com
