Philanthropist and Chivi South National Assembly member Cde Killer Zivhu has come to the rescue of four physically and mentally challenged members of Mwenezi’s Gonamombe family at Godora Farm Village 4 under Chief Chitanga.
Cde Zivhu donated 30 000 bricks for the construction of a decent home, some blankets and basic commodities that would sustain the family for some time.
The four, three of them who are men aged 27, 25, 22, and a 10-year-old child, suffer from both physical and mental disabilities.
They are part of a nine-member family comprising six adults and three minors.
The four are immobile and they crawl to interact with the environment.
Their widowed mother, Ms Dzosai Chihora (55), is the one who begs for food to fend for her family and takes the responsibility to bath them everyday despite being adults.
The heart-rending story of the family was recently aired on national television.
In an interview with The Herald, Cde Zivhu said the family needed help to sustain itself and that explained his gesture.
“When such calls like these come up, it’s a matter of responding positively, the same way God answers to our tough situations,” he said. “It does not mean life is rosy for us, but we act from the little that we have to help others in worse situations.
“It will be virtuous if we have more aid from our fellow Zimbabweans to boost the construction of their house. I have sorted out the issue of builders and bricks, only cement and other materials are left to be put in place.
“My hopes are still high on attaining a farm which I have been applying for, for quite some time now because space too determines the extent one’s hand can reach out to the needy. Farm space is fit for a clinic, a school, houses, agriculture, to mention a few.”
In an interview, Mwenezi District Administrator Ms Rosemary Chingwe hailed well-wishers who were assisting the Gonamombe family, saying the situation called for combative effort from all Zimbabweans.
“I would like to thank Honourable Zivhu for such a gesture as the family is in a critical situation,” she said. “Imagine all the four cannot walk as they are paralysed and they have a Down’s syndrome condition that makes it hard for them to attend school.”
Mrs Chingwe said another organisation had offered to build the house for the family using the bricks donated by Cde Zivhu.
“We are also looking forward to providing the family with livestock, ploughs and other household items which can sustain it in the long run,” she said.
