A MATABELELAND South man has accused his ex-wife’s uncle of having an incestuous affair with her, leading to the collapse of his marriage.
Melusi Ndlovu said his marriage to Rebecca Mayisa ended after he discovered she was involved in a romantic relationship with her uncle, Bernard Mayisa.
Rebecca has strongly denied the allegations, dismissing them as the claims of a bitter ex-husband trying to tarnish her image after their separation.
Bernard could not be reached for comment despite repeated attempts by B-Metro over the past week. Efforts to contact his wife were also unsuccessful.
Speaking to B-Metro, Melusi said he got customarily married to Rebecca and they built a life together after beginning their relationship in 2017.
“I trusted Bernard because I looked up to him as a father figure. He assisted us to get a stand near his home and I invested money developing it by putting up a fence and buying building materials,” he said.
Melusi said Bernard and Rebecca already had a romantic relationship while he was pouring money into the property and building a future with her.
“They knew what they were doing. Looking back now, I feel they used me to develop that stand and then pushed me out afterwards,” he alleged.
According to Melusi, Rebecca spent periods working in Botswana but frequently returned home during holidays.
The former couple disagree on when their relationship ended.
Rebecca says she ended it in 2023, while Melusi insists they only separated in December 2024.
“People kept telling me the uncle was the one who ruined my marriage, but I did not believe them because I thought he was a good man,” said Melusi.
He said he began hearing allegations suggesting Rebecca and Bernard were romantically involved while they were still married.
“At first I thought it was a misunderstanding. Whenever I asked her about it she would apologise and I would move on. Later I heard she was pregnant and that is when I felt the relationship was over,” he alleged.
Melusi further claimed that neighbours and workmates told him Bernard regularly accompanied Rebecca and behaved affectionately towards her in public.
He said he has struggled to maintain access to his daughter after the marriage ended and claimed Bernard threatened him after he indicated he wanted to expose the matter publicly.
Asked whether he had reported the allegations to the police, Melusi admitted he had not.
“I have not yet opened a case because I am currently out of the country,” he said.
Melusi admitted there had been instances of infidelity on his part during the relationship but denied claims that his alleged cheating was the main reason for the collapse of the marriage. He also denied allegations that he had a relationship with the family’s domestic worker or that he continued seeing other women while working in Botswana.
Regarding Rebecca’s denial of an affair with her uncle, Melusi remained adamant.
“She will not agree because it is embarrassing, but I stand by what I was told and what I believe happened,” he maintained.
However, Rebecca painted a completely different picture.
“Thank you for the opportunity, although it’s a cooked story,” she said.
Rebecca said the relationship deteriorated because of Melusi’s repeated infidelity.
“Things were well until he started cheating on me. Every time I caught him, he would apologise and promise to change, but he continued.”
She said she eventually ended the relationship in 2023 after discovering that Melusi was involved with their domestic worker. “I ended up giving up when I caught him sleeping with our maid who was taking care of our children,” she said.
Melusi, Rebecca said, continued having relationships with other women while working in Botswana and provided B-Metro with screenshots and photographs she said supported her claims.
She also disputed Melusi’s account of the family’s construction project, insisting she made significant contributions through stokvel savings and payments to builders.
Rebecca said the property belonged to her family and had been allocated to her.
“He became angry when he was told he could not sell it because it was family land that had been given to me.”
“I don’t know anything about the affair he is talking about. He is trying to blackmail me and cover up his own behaviour.”
She said Melusi repeatedly tried to reconcile with her after the relationship ended and became angry when she refused.
“He wanted us to get back together but I refused. All he is trying to do is tarnish my image.”
The allegations have since spilled onto social media, where details of the dispute have been shared in several Facebook groups, fuelling speculation.
