HERALD lnnovations Editor, Sifelani Tsiko, has won the Presidential lnnovations Award for excellence in reporting and communicating issues related to science, technology and innovation in the country.
Tsiko, a veteran journalist, walked away with a prize and a certificate for his efforts to raise the profile of science, technology and innovation outputs critical to the country’s industrialisation drive.
President Mnangagwa awarded Tsiko and other winners with prizes for excelling at the second Presidential lnnovation Fair in Harare yesterday.
Wellington Makonese of ZBC won the best prize for reporting on science, technology and innovation in the broadcast category. Tsiko was honoured for consistently covering the science, technology and innovation sector, unpacking scientific issues in a way that highlighted how local innovations could play an important role in finding solutions to the country’s pressing developmental issues.
Tsiko, who has spent more than two decades in the media industry, has in the past also received numerous other awards and accolades for his work including the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation Award in 2017.
The Presidential Innovation Fair seeks to build and reinforce a thriving innovation ecosystem through exhibitions and expos of current work from universities through the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development institutions, Government and private institutions as well as private individuals.
