THE Herald sports reporter Tadious Manyepo has cemented his position as a star in the industry after scooping the best Sports Journalist of the Year Award in the prestigious National Journalism and Media Awards (NJAMA) for 2022-2023.
The annual event was held in Harare on Thursday night with the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere, the Guest of Honour.
Manyepo emerged tops with his captivating entry being a story about the owner of Faith Drive Queens Gogo Nelia Musikavanhu, who has sacrificed everything in her life including turning her Mutare home into a club house all in a bid to end child marriages.
The multi-award winning Manyepo, who also won NJAMA gong in 2020, said he owes his success to teamwork in The Herald newsroom.
“I am humbled to win this award for the second time in three years. I would like to thank God for guiding me during the course of my work,” he said.
“This success story wouldn’t have been possible without the input of my workmates in The Herald newsroom. I would like to thank, foremost, the editor of The Herald Hatred Zenenga for inspiring confidence in everyone.
“Without his motivation, I know it’s very difficult to go out of your way and think outside the box.
“I would also want to thank my Sports editor Collin Matiza and my mates on the sports desk Eddie Chikamhi, Ellina Mhlanga, Grace Chingoma and Takudzwa Chitsiga.
“H-Metro editor Robson Sharuko and Sunday Mail Sports editor Petros “Pablo” Kausiyo have also played big roles in nurturing me. And special mention goes to my mother Judith, and my family for all the support”.
The Hwedza-born scribe has also won awards in traffic safety and the Sports Journalists Association.
