A 20-year-old man was sentenced to nine years imprisonment for stealing a cow valued at US$400 which he claimed as his payment for a job he had done in the village.

In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “Sometime in September 2023 the complainant came back from South Africa and found that a beast was missing from his herd of cattle. He asked his wife and Learnmark Maphosa (20) (his herd boy) about the whereabouts of the beast. They both confessed their lack of knowledge about the matter. The complainant then instructed the accused person together with one Kudakwashe Manhungei to look for the missing cow before he went back to South Africa.”

The complainant returned from South Africa on 10 March 2024 and inquiries led him to Maphosa’s uncle, Calvin Mberengo’s homestead where he recovered his beast.

“Mberengo confessed that the accused person brought the cow to his homestead and told him that he had received the cow as payment for a job he had done in Gava village”, said NPAZ

A report was made to the Police leading to Maphosa’s arrest.
