Herentals college geared up for the game

HERENTALS College stand in the way of FC Platinum’s cup double dream with the Students confident of upsetting the Chibuku Super Cup defending champions and make history for themselves by playing in the cup final for the first time in the club’s history.

The two sides are set to clash in the semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup at Mandava Stadium on Sunday.
FC Platinum are on course for their fourth league title. With four games to go to the finish line, Pure Platinum Play are top of the table with a 10 point lead over Dynamos. They just need one more victory to win the league.

They have eyes on defending the Chibuku Super Cup as well but the Students stand in their way.
Herentals are the last team to defeat FC Platinum after edging them 1-0 on April 30. The two sides squared off in the reverse league fixture last weekend with FC Platinum notching up a one nil victory at Mandava.

Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, the Herentals coach says they have made corrections from the league defeat.
“Our preparations are on course. Everything is going on very well. We are playing the semifinal which is motivation enough for us. Getting into the final will be a monumental achievement for this club,” said Mutiwekuziwa.

“The boys are fully aware of the task at hand and everyone is geared up. The mood in camp is encouraging. We played FC Platinum last weekend and it was a close encounter. We had some chances we could have taken.

“We have done some corrections from that and we are ready for the cup tie. We dream of winning the competition. It will mean a lot for the team and for me as a coach given we are still a young side in Zimbabwean football.”

The Students progressed to the semi-finals after a 2-1 victory over Manica Diamonds. FC Platinum on the other hand beat Dynamos on penalties to book a last four slot.

FC Platinum won last year’s Chibuku Super Cup with a 5-3 on penalties win over Ngezi Platinum Stars when the match had concluded 0-0 after extra time at Mandava.

The Chibuku Super Cup is sponsored to the tune of US$375 000 by Delta Beverages. Winners will pocket US$75 000, losing finalists have US$50 000 in store for them while the two semifinals to be booted out on Sunday stand to get US$25 000 each. All the prize money will be paid out in local currency at the prevailing auction rate. – Follow on Twitter @innocentskizoe
