THE ZIFA Southern Region Division One League has scored a major win off the pitch, securing a US$10 000 sponsorship from the Herentals Group of Colleges in a timely boost to the 2025 season.

The deal, unveiled on Sunday at the Zifa Southern Region offices, will fund monthly accolades for Player of the Month and Coach of the Month as well as end of season awards. It’s a welcome injection of support aimed at celebrating excellence and fuelling competition across the league.

Zifa Southern Region chairman Lloyd Munhanga welcomed the development, saying the financial backing comes at a critical time.

“To be honest, last year was a tough one as we operated without any sponsorship. We are delighted that Herentals have come on board to support us. This is a massive boost for the league,” said Munhanga.

“We are extremely pleased with this US$10 000 sponsorship. Not only does it show confidence in our league, but it also sends a message to other potential sponsors that we are open for business. We look forward to more partnerships as the exciting 2025 season continues to unfold.”

Meanwhile, on the field of play, Bulawayo Chiefs extended their lead at the top of the Southern Region Division One standings with a dominant 4–0 victory over Ajax Hotspurs Movers. The emphatic win marked their first home game at Chiefs Village, a newly cleared venue they’ll use for the remainder of the campaign.

Second placed Hwange stayed hot on their heels after grinding out a narrow 1–0 win against Nkayi United, keeping the gap at just two points. Chiefs now sit on 18 points from seven matches, with Hwange close behind on 16. Bulawayo City Warriors occupy third spot with 14 points.
