HERENTALS Queens coach Simbarashe Dedza has urged his girls to stay grounded after they picked crucial points when edging Correctional Queens 1-0 over the weekend.
The win saw them take their tally to 47 points, five behind Chapungu and Correctional who have both played two games more than Vagoni Vebasa.
That means Herentals Queens can leapfrog both if they win their two outstanding games.
But Dedza, who will win the league for the fourth year running if he manages to shepherd them to the podium this season, knows that is easier said than done.
“I am absolutely thrilled with the way we won against Correctional Queens. That was a huge step in the right direction,” Dedza said.
“We knew that Correctional Queens would come at us hard, but we managed to ask the difficult questions, which they didn’t have the answers ready.
“However, it is still a long time to go and we need to be grounded and focused. At this point in time, we know if we win all our remaining games, we will be the champions.
“But we are never going to get ahead of ourselves. We will take each game as it comes and see what happens.”
Striker Maudy Mafuruse, whose solitary goal floored Correctional, said: “Well, this is the most difficult phase of the season. We need to be as focused as we can to be able to defend the title for the third time running.
“We are telling each other to stay in our lane, be disciplined, and always have the hunger to conquer.”
