Herentals College 2-2 Triangle
HERENTALS College were held to a two all draw by Thulani “Thutts” Sibanda mentored Triangle in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Mandava Stadium yesterday.
It was a match in which the Students looked poised to win after being thrust into the driving seat by Blessing Phiri just before the half hour mark.
While it is no wonder that Herentals dominated the first stanza, their joy was short-lived after Russel Madamombe reduced arrears for the Sugar Sugar Boys ten minutes into the second half.
Sibanda’s charges were moments later thrust into the lead by Eriya Mafirenyika. As play progressed and with Triangle probably looking for a cushion goal, they made a double substitution introducing new signing Newman Sianchali and Wayne Makuva for Madamombe and Njabulo Ngwenya respectively.
Sianchali, is a veteran forward that has previously turned out for Hwange, now defunct Bantu Rovers, Bulawayo City, Highlanders, Dynamos and CAPS United.
With just a minute of being introduced into the game, substitute Blessing Majarira who was introduced for John Zhuwawo got the all-important equaliser for Herentals to ensure both clubs share the spoils.
“I think we didn’t have a good first. At halftime we came up with a strategy that gave us two goals. We could have won. Unfortunately, we didn’t do that. We were coming from a devastating 2-0 loss to Green Fuel so we had to psyche a few boys up,” said Sibanda.
His opposite number Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva said:
“It did not go the way we expected after managing to get the lead. Triangle had other ideas in the second half. They came tight to us trying to get a positive result.
“We managed to resist and also come back to get a point against them.
“We missed chances, we should have wrapped the game. We deserved maximum points.”
Herentals are now in position seven with 25 points under their belt. On the other hand Triangle took their points tally to 20 and are number 14 on the log table.
