PREMIERSHIP side Herentals want to be the biblical David, who will bring down a giant in Ngezi Platinum Stars in their Chibuku Super Cup clash at Baobab this weekend.
The Students will be playing their first match in the country’s premier knock-out tournament.
Club owner Tariro Benza said they knew they were always going to face a tough side.
“We were in for the draw and nothing was going to change as we were going to face any of the so-called big teams who were in the top half of the table before mid-season,’’ said Benza.
“We are happy and ready to travel to Baobab to face Ngezi, who have been doing well. I think we have a 50-50 chance considering how the boys have grown in confidence and they will be hoping to improve from the draw they got against our opponents.
“We have now grown in confidence and we understand that cup games are different from league matches, but we will fancy our chances.’’
Herentals are a family affair as veteran forward Innocent Benza (46), is the oldest player in the Premiership who usually leads their attack.
His son, 17-year-old Tino, is also part of the club’s attack. Ngezi Platinum Stars, who are also in the battle for the league championship, have somehow struggled against the so-called lightweights who have dented their quest for success.
Tonderai Ndiraya’s men, who are irresistible on the day they find their range, are coming from a depressing defeat at the hands of Yadah Stars at Rufaro last weekend.
The Harare side frustrated them for long periods and then struck towards the end of the match for the victory which left Ndiraya seething with anger.
Ngezi Platinum Stars also lost at Mutare City Rovers, who are battling relegation, earlier this season.
