Heritage-based Education 5.0 a key driver towards Vision 2030

ZIMBABWE is working to transform into a country that can produce its own food, provide health services, clean water, build infrastructure such as roads and bridges, provide shelter for its people and other such basic needs hence it adopted heritage-based Education 5.0.

Education 5.0 is a five-mission model of teaching, research, community service, innovation and industrialisation and that is what is required for Zimbabwe’s innovation and knowledge-driven economy.

The Government has committed itself to making sure that education is used as a driver towards achieving Vision 2030 that seeks to have an upper middle-income economy.

In an interview during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) last Friday, the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira said the state of any country is reflected on the state of knowledge, skill and attitude which speaks to education being the common denominator.

The ministry’s theme at this year’s trade expo was “Global competitiveness through transformative innovation and industrialisation: Heritage-based Education 5.0.”

“The theme actually speaks to what we are doing as the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development because as you know, a country and a state of any country is a reflection of the state of knowledge, skill and attitude, which is education,” he said.

“If you have country A and B with exactly the same type and number of natural resources yet country A is richer than country B, then you know the problem is the people and nothing else,” said Minister Murwira.

He said through heritage-based Education 5.0, Zimbabwe is on its way to transforming into a country that can produce its own food.

“As a nation, we are also moving towards providing our own health services, producing our own infrastructure and shelter as well as providing water for our people,” said Prof Murwira.

He said Zimbabwe is transforming into a country that can fulfil its needs because the fulfilment of needs is a function of what one knows. “We are into the war of the brain, once you transform people’s minds, you transform your country,” said Minister Murwira. –@skhumoyo2000.
