NATIONAL Darts Association of Zimbabwe (Ndaz) secretary-general Stephen Mwarindira says it’s all systems go ahead of the Closed Heroes Day tournament to be held at Milton High School beginning today.
The tournament will start with a training programme targeting school teachers this morning.
The games begin tomorrow and they will end on Tuesday.
“We are ready to get the games started. Teams are expected to be in Bulawayo tomorrow (today). We will have our meet and greet in the evening before the tournament starts on Saturday. The training for upcoming coaches will commence our programmes this morning,” said Mwarindira.
This is an annual competition that attracts the top playing players around Zimbabwe.
Only Masvingo province will not be sending a team for this year’s competition.
Bulawayo Province Darts Association vice chairman Zivanai Masviviriri said they are assured their team will perform well. “We have assembled a strong team and we are hopeful that the team will perform well in the competition.
“We are looking forward to the competition which is of a great magnitude and has a huge sentimental value as it is played on this important holiday,” Masviviriri said.
He said as hosts, they would not want to disappoint at home and promised to put out a good show.

“It’s going to be a tough tournament but that won’t deter us. We want to take the crown on home ground,” he said.
The Bulawayo team will bank on seasoned darts players who have shown they can aim for gold and get it.
At last year’s competition, the Bulawayo duo of Bright Mabuza and Joshua Jabangwe scooped gold in the open doubles, beating Salesio Gunda and Othenial Makwara from Manicaland.
In the closed doubles, Mgcini Nkala and Garai Simbanegavi won gold after beating Kudzie Nyemba and Tawanda Hodzi of Mashonaland West, who came on a personal capacity — @innocentskizoe
