PREPARATIONS for this year’s Heroes and Defence Forces Day commemorations in Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North provinces are progressing well, with the respective provincial organising committees reporting that everything is moving according to plan.

President Mnangagwa would lead the main Heroes Day commemorations at the National Heroes Acre in Harare on August 11, 2025, where thousands of Zimbabweans are expected to attend in remembrance of the gallant sons and daughters, who sacrificed for their lives during the liberation struggle, and contributed in different ways to its prosperity after independence.

This will be followed by Defence Forces Day commemorations on August 12, with main celebrations slated for Rufaro Stadium in Harare.

This year’s celebrations will run under the theme: “Zimbabwe Defence Forces: Guaranteeing a Conducive Environment for the Attainment of Vision 2030.”

In Bulawayo, Provincial Affairs and Devolution Permanent Secretary, Mr Paul Nyoni, confirmed that preparations for the local commemorations are progressing well.

He noted that committee and sub-committee members are providing regular feedback during weekly meetings to ensure everything is on track.

“We are working on the preparations, and they are going well. We hold weekly meetings, our last one was on Tuesday where committees and sub-committee members give feedback on the progress made so far. Rehearsals are scheduled for August 8, 2025,” said Mr Nyoni.

Hundreds of people from Bulawayo are expected to gather at the provincial shrine in Nkulumane on August 11 and at White City Stadium on August 12, 2025, for the Defence Forces Day Celebrations.

Similarly, in Matabeleland North Province, preparations are also progressing well.

Minister of Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Richard Moyo, stated that they are ready to host the Heroes Day commemorations at the Matabeleland North Provincial Heroes Acre in Lupane.

Meanwhile, in Matabeleland South, people will gather at the Matabeleland South Provincial Heroes Acre in Gwanda Town.

Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Cde Albert Nguluvhe confirmed that preparations there are also progressing well, with various committees — including catering, security, entertainment, transport and fundraising, already on the ground busy with their tasks.
