Zimbabwean boxer, Beaven “The One” Sibanda, returned home to a hero’s welcome at the Robert Mugabe International Airport following his triumphant win of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) International Minimum-weight title early this month.
Sibanda clinched the IBF belt after dislodging Richard Garde of the Philippines through a knockout in the fifth round of a 12-round match.
Sibanda wrote his own piece of history as he became the first Zimbabwean boxer to win the IBF International Minimum-weight title.
Speaking upon his arrival at the Robert Mugabe International Airport on Monday morning, where he received a hero’s welcome from family members, boxing fans, and local promoter Clyde Musonda of Delta Force, the young boxer said winning the belt was an exciting moment in his career.
“The feeling is very overwhelming. I am so happy and excited to be back home after winning the IBF title, and it is a blessing for me.
“It feels great to be the first Zimbabwean to win the IBF title, and I hope this will inspire more upcoming boxers,” he said.
Sibanda, who turned professional in 2016, is looking ahead to a fruitful journey, describing his first IBF title as the first of many titles to come.
“This is just the beginning. I am looking forward to more titles,” said the IBF champion.
