The Harare International Festival of the Arts 2016 programme is set to kick start on April 29 with a three-day musical concert at St Georges College. This year’s edition is not going to be the traditional six-day event but will instead run from this month up to the end of year. Addressing a press conference in the capital yesterday, Hifa Executive director Maria Wilson thanked CABS bank for its unwavering support towards Hifa and promised a memorable three-day musical concert.

“We are very grateful to CABS for supporting us for so many years, it shows that they believe in our country and in our artistes

“The Cabs Classical Music event is going to be an exciting three-day activity where people are going to have fun as they celebrate classical music’s universal impact and influence.

“Classical music is the reason we have music for it gave foundation to different musical genres so we are urging people who thought classical music is not for them to come and experience the other side of music,” she said.

She highlighted that there will be different musical groups that will perform at the concert.

“We are going to have local groups for example the Prince Edward Marimba band, together with visiting artists performing at these three days,” she said.

Speaking at same occasion, Hifa spokesperson Tafadzwa Simba said they have added some new activities that were not traditionally associated with the festival to cater for different people but reiterated that in every event there will be an aspect of arts.

“We have added sporting activities on this year’s edition of Hifa but we are going to have an arts aspect in every event,” he said.

This year’s events will include a theatre season, parkade party, rugby exhibition match, car racing demonstration and any other events to be hosted in different venues.

There will be a Fashion, Hair and Beauty show in November with an anti-poaching and environmental conservation conference wrapping up the year in December.
