High Glen Junior Football League launched

development by attending junior soccer matches and identifying talent.
Kadewere was speaking at the launch of the Under-20 High Glen District Junior League at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield yesterday.
“We want the national team coach and club coaches to come and watch these youngsters play.
“If the coaches take time to watch these guys play it will also help to broaden the selection for the junior national teams.
“There is a lot of talent in the junior leagues but the players are lacking exposure at the highest level.
“It is very unfortunate that we invited several coaches to attend the launch but only a few came to witness the event,” said Kadewere.
Coaches who graced yesterday’s launch include Alan Mapila and Themba Sibanda.
Kadewere called upon the corporate world to help the youngsters with the much- needed resources.
“We want the grassroots football to be supported and I am confident that by 2014 we will be having one or two players representing the country at the World Cup from these junior players.
“We are appealing to the corporate world to assist these kids with basic equipment like boots, soccer balls and uniforms.”
Kadewere said they have introduced a licencing system to avoid age-cheating in junior football.
“We want to make sure that we shun all forms of age-cheating and as a league we have introduced a licencing system to avoid team rotation by the players,” said Kadewere.
The High Glen Junior League will start rolling this Saturday with 10 teams from the Under-12 to Under-20 age-groups expected to take part.
