DYNAMOS interim boss Lloyd ‘Mablanyo’ Chigowe, has made a remarkable impact since taking the reins, collecting four points in two crucial matches.
This impressive start has sparked hope among fans and players alike, and it’s clear that Chigowe’s influence extends beyond just tactics and strategy.
He started his journey with a 1-1 draw against championship favourites, Simba Bhora before stunning ZESCO United 1-0 in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary assignment last Sunday.
Hailing from Highfield, Chigowe has a special connection with five of Dynamos’ senior players, captain, Frank Makarati, Donald Mudadi, Temptation Chiwunga, Tanaka Shandirwa, and Issa Sadiki.
These players, all from the same neighbourhood as their coach, have become the team’s backbone, and their dedication to Chigowe’s cause is evident.
Shandirwa’s solitary goal against ZESCO United was more than just a winning strike.
To some extent, it was a testament to the team’s unity and determination.
The truth is, these players under review, are not only fighting for Dynamos’ success but also for their homeboy and mentor, Chigowe, to gain the respect he deserves as a substantive coach.
The chemistry between Chigowe and his players is palpable, and the environment has transformed Sadiki into a different beast.
Once a reserved player, Sadiki now exudes confidence, and his performances have improved significantly.
Shandirwa, too, has regained his magical touch, while Mudadi and Makarati have seemingly rediscovered their form after being relegated to reduced roles under previous coach Genesis Mangombe.
This resurgence is a direct result of Chigowe’s influence, who has instilled a sense of belonging and purpose among his players.
As Dynamos continues to soar under Chigowe’s guidance, the question on everyone’s lips is will the team’s leadership take notice and appoint him as the substantive coach.
The players’ performances are making a strong case for Chigowe’s permanent appointment, and fans are eagerly awaiting the decision which is expected to be made soon.
The quintet will stop at nothing to make their coach and their community proud.
Makarati feels Dynamos have what it takes to cause more upsets in the African safari.
“We have a good team, which is capable of overcoming any opponent if we stay grounded, “said Makarati.
“It cheers me up seeing my colleagues from Highfield shining at Dynamos because the struggle was real before we joined this great club.
“Our success as a club is celebrated more in Highfield because this is the only club in the Premiership with eight players from the same suburb. We are also happy for our coach Chigowe who seems to be bringing out the best in us.”
Dynamos also have Francis Jerimani and Vusa Ngwenya, who hail from Highfield.
The reverse fixture will be played in Zambia next weekend.
The winner in the fixture will face either Orapa United from Botswana or Seychelles’ Foresters FC in the next round.
