Highfield residents have commended Geo Pomona Waste Management for improving garbage collection in the area, while calling for the removal of a dumpsite near Mhizha School.
Speaking at a feedback meeting last week, residents also appealed to the waste management company to provide more bins to improve waste disposal.
A street cleaner with Geo Pomona Waste Management Highfields, Mr Godfrey Tatire, said the company would provide a skip bin for the area, although garbage was already being collected around Mhizha School.
He urged residents to temporarily place their waste in plastic bags while waiting for the skip bin.
Mr Tatire said there were also plans to provide steel bins in the near future. He said the area covered by Geo Pomona Waste Management Highfields included Highfield, Glen View, Glen Norah, Budiriro and Mufakose.
Mr Tatire urged residents to use the skip bins provided during the day and avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste.
He said proper waste disposal was essential in keeping communities clean and preventing the accumulation of garbage in undesignated areas.
“We collect garbage in the afternoon and evenings. For door-to-door collections, I urge residents to put their garbage in plastic bags,” said Mr Tatire.
He urged residents to identify other sites that require skip bins.
