Highlanders coach de Jongh in hot water over explosive PSL bias claims

Highlanders coach Pieter de Jongh is facing potential sanctions after publicly accusing the Premier Soccer League (PSL) of favouring Dynamos and other clubs at Bosso’s expense.

The outspoken Dutchman, animated throughout Bosso’s Chibuku Super Cup semi-final defeat to Dynamos, is now under investigation for possible misconduct.

During the post-match press conference, De Jongh questioned several refereeing decisions and suggested the league’s scheduling gave certain teams an unfair advantage.

“There should be fairness. When teams are fighting for survival, they must all play at the same time. That’s how football is managed everywhere,” he said.

The PSL hierarchy has reacted swiftly. Acting Chief Executive Rodwell Thabe confirmed that a review of De Jongh’s remarks has been launched.

“We have taken note of the allegations made by the Highlanders coach against match officials and the fixturing schedule. If the coach is found to have breached PSL Rules and Regulations, he will be sanctioned. It’s misconduct for an official to imply bias or question the integrity of the league,” said Thabe.

Thabe noted that while the league aims to align fixtures near the end of the season, simultaneous scheduling is not always possible due to stadium sharing among clubs.

“It’s not mandatory for all matches to be played at the same time except the final round. We always aim to protect the integrity of the competition, but limited approved stadiums make it difficult since some clubs share venues,” he said.

The controversy comes as Highlanders hover uncomfortably close to the relegation zone. With just three rounds remaining, Bosso and eight other clubs have yet to cross the 40-point mark.

The affected sides include Dynamos, Yadah Stars, Bikita Minerals, Manica Diamonds, GreenFuel, Triangle, Chicken Inn, and CAPS United, while Kwekwe United became the first team to be relegated last weekend.

Bosso’s remaining fixtures are against Simba Bhora, Manica Diamonds, and Chicken Inn, a run that will determine whether De Jongh can steer his side to safety—or face a deeper storm of his own making.
