HIGHLANDERS’ Clubhouse will today host a highly charged Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) that could define the club’s immediate future, with chairman Kenneth Mhlophe and treasurer Nkani Khoza expected to present crucial reports to fully paid up members.
The meeting comes at a time Bosso are struggling both on and off the pitch. Their first-half performance has been poor, fans are restless and rumours of executive shake ups refuse to go away. The notice sent to members read:
“Members of Highlanders Football Club in good standing are hereby notified of the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to be held at the Club House located at Masotsha Ndlovu/Fife Street.”
For many, tomorrow is about more than balance sheets. Bosso haven’t lifted a league title since 2006, a painful drought compounded by the rise of financially stronger rivals. Pressure is mounting on the leadership to not only deliver results on the field but to strengthen governance and streamline decision making structures.
Tensions are already boiling. Life member Pilate Mahlangu has tabled a Vote of No Confidence motion against Mhlophe and his executive, accusing them of presiding over a leadership crisis. He cites leaking of confidential documents, questionable transfers, governance failures, fraud scandals and the team’s poor run of results.
“This leadership has shaken the club to its core,” Mahlangu argued.
Although insiders suggest the motion may not pass, the EGM promises fireworks as frustrated members demand accountability.
The unrest overshadows Bosso’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Week 25 home clash against TelOne, a side enjoying a decent season under former Dynamos coach Herbert Maruwa. Highlanders sit on 29 points from 24 matches, and interim coach Try Ncube admits his team face a stern test.
“We will be playing against a good side, they are up there on the ladder but we will need to convert our chances. We have been playing but failing to score.
“At times you draw matches that you are not supposed to draw, lose matches that you are not supposed to lose. I’m positive that we will play well against TelOne,” Ncube said.
He added:
“Ahead of this match, we have had time to fix our conversion rate. Hopefully we will manage to turn our chances into goals.”
Maruwa was equally defiant.
“The problem is we have also been struggling to score, but we will not be intimidated by the Highlanders fans. We know they will come in their numbers but we will not be moved,” he said.
Meanwhile, other PSL fixtures set for this afternoon include bottom-placed Kwekwe United against resurgent Dynamos at Ascot Stadium in Gweru, CAPS United hosting Yadah at Rufaro, and Triangle United taking on FC Platinum at Gibbo.
