HIGHLANDERS Football Club’s Under-15 side were crowned champions of the Mdula Foundation tournament held at the Bulawayo Chiefs Village on Saturday.

Bosso’s juniors, under the mentorship of Sizabantu Khoza, Melusi “Mabaleka” Sibanda and Daniel Ngwenya defeated Thorngrove 1-0 in the semi-finals before going on to dispatch Thandanani 4-2 in the final.

Thandanani on the other hand beat Chicken Inn 3-2 through penalties in the other semi-final. The two sides had been deadlocked at one all during regulation time.

Winners of the tournament received 20 gold medals, a trophy, T-shirts and 18 pairs of socks.

The football foundation was established last year with the vision of creating a safe and fun environment for young people to enjoy the beautiful game of football.

The main objective for the foundation is to promote junior football by helping manage other junior teams to make them run smoothly.

The Foundation does this by firstly sourcing football kits, boots and any necessary football equipment required. Secondly, hosting soccer tournaments and lastly coaching clinics for the diagnosis of problems and training. Efficiency and professionalism is the foundation’s motto. United King based Zimbabwean Mduduzi Nkiwane is the director of the foundation.

Organisers of the tournament called on the youth to desist from drug and substance abuse. –
