Highlanders in deep trouble

MTN Premier League of Swaziland side Mbabane Highlandersa 1-2 defeat to Tambuti FC was energy sapping for its supporters.

The legendary sideas relegation threat is now a reality. Another disheartening move was parting ways with Zimbabwe-born coach Hebert Maruwa after only 62 days in charge paving way for a fourth coach to take charge in a season.

Check football history, there are very few clubs-if not none- that have survived relegation after so many changes in one troubled season and this is the miraculous escape Highlanders will have to mount.

Maruwa failed to meet the set target by the team which was to get four points in two matches, where he only managed a single point which was during the goalless draw against Manzini Sundowns about a month ago.

Highlanders are dilly-dallying with the relegation chop and with five games remaining, they are second from the bottom and face a fate witnessed three seasons ago when they were demoted to the National First Division.

On 14 points after 17 games, Swazilandas most successful side will face old rivals Manzini Wanderers, basement Manzini Sea Birds, security services sides Green Mamba and Young Buffaloes before the derby against sworn rivals Mbabane Swallows in the last game of the MTN League season.

Maruwa confirmed he was no longer Highlanders coach when reached yesterday. He however, wished the side the best of luck in the battle to remain afloat in the relegation battle.

a?We mutually agreed to part ways after failing to achieve the mandate of collecting at least four points from the past two league matches. It was a worthwhile experience working for this massive team. I respect the directorsa decision,a? Maruwa said.
