THERE is an improved mood and sense of optimism in the Highlanders camp and the big question now is has the much awaited Baltemar Brito turn-around finally come or is it too early to judge?
Bosso have notched up two victories on the trot. One in the league and a vital confidence boosting 0-1 away Chibuku Super Cup victory over Triangle.
Just this last Sunday, they showed great character to come back from a goal down at half-time to beat old time rivals Caps United 2-1.
The victory was Brito’s fourth win in eight games which includes three draws and a defeat.
The victory in Triangle was more than special as Bosso won a match on the road, something that they have failed to do in the last 32 attempts.
One has to go as far back as September 25, 2019 to see the last time Bosso won an away game when they beat Bulawayo Chiefs 3-1 at Barbourfields Stadium.
In fact, Highlanders have not won a league match away from Barbourfields Stadium since they beat Triangle 1-0 at Gibbo in July 2018.
Bosso have only managed two consecutive victories in the league once this season. This was when they beat Harare City (0-1) and Black Rhinos (2-3). With the consecutive two wins in the league and cup, could this be the big Bosso turnaround?
Can the away games jinx be broken when they face Yadah on Friday?
Bosso assistant coach Joel Luphahla hopes so.
“I think we have had difficulties as a club. We have gone on a good run of results. We are hoping that maybe last week and this result was a good turnaround for us.
“Let’s hope we can put two or three league win matches in a row to give confidence to the players and confidence to the fans as well so that they come and fill up the stadium.
“We need the fans. They are our 12th man. We need to win games so that they come to the stadium. We have Yadah next away from home. It’s going to be difficult but we hope to get a good result,” said Luphahla.
Genesis Mangombe, the Yadah coach, expects a tough encounter.
“It’s a tricky encounter against Highlanders, but we play at home, we have to maximise on our home advantage,” said Mangombe.
Meanwhile, striker Lynoth Chikuhwa has extended his stay at Highlanders by a further two years, the club has announced.
“We are delighted to confirm that Lynoth Chikuhwa has extended his contract with the club until December 2024,” read a statement from the club.
Chikuhwa, a former Highlanders academy player, who captained the Bosso juniors when they were in Division Two in 2012, has scored seven goals in the league.
Caps United forward William Manondo leads the top goal scorers chart with 15 goals. Chicken Inn’s Brian Muza is on 10 goals while Nyasha Chintuli of Manica Diamonds has scored nine goals. — @innocentskizoe
