Highlanders Stars spared suspension

Sports Reporter
MARK Mathe will begin life at Highlanders as interim coach with a full squad to choose from after his players were spared suspension, according to a list released by the Premier Soccer League yesterday. But perennial foes Dynamos, who are on course for a fourth consecutive title – a feat achieved only twice before by the Harare team and Highlanders – will miss striker Anesu Gondo. He has accumulated three yellow cards and appears on the list released yesterday.

Mathe, who takes over from Kelvin Kaindu in the interim, will be hoping his stars reproduce the form that saw them dismantle Caps United 4-0 in Bulawayo in May. It was a good all round performance as Highlanders fired from all cylinders.

But since that memorable afternoon at Barbourfields Stadium, Bosso have gone on a slump and their second round statistics are a worrying factor as they have won just nine points out of a possible 27. The downward slide prompted the departure of Kelvin Kaindu whose tactics on the field appeared to be every team’s open secret since the promising start in 2012 where he set a Zimbabwean record of 23-unbeaten Premiership league matches. It is time for Mathe to prove his mettle and for the boys to change from highly paid under achievers to a group that knows it owes its fans and sponsors, good performances.

Chicken Inn will be without Danny Phiri but could find solace in the dependable duo of Brian Juru and Thabani Goredema who have often proven to be good midfield destroyers when thrown onto the fray.

Triangle’s relegation fight is expected to continue this weekend with the team on a high following their OneWallet triumph over Dynamos last Sunday but sadly they will be without top marksman Richard Kawondera. He has picked up three yellow cards.

FC Platinum will be without Thabani Kamusoko who is also suspended.
