Hillcrest College: Providing the best education solution

Extra Correspondent
Hillcrest College is located at the foothills of the Mutare mountains, just 12 kilometres out of Mutare on Kloof Road, Penhalonga. It is in a quiet, undisturbed tranquil area surrounded by msasa woodlands. The college was established in 1985 as a co-educational school with strong Christian ethos. It is a member of the Association of Trust Schools (ATS).

From the initial six classrooms in 1985, the school has expanded to include 21 classrooms, six science laboratories, two computer labs, a music room, an art room, an administration block, a gym, a technical centre, all-weather tennis and basketball courts, a library, a Beit hall, a lecture theatre, fleet of modern buses, 24/7 security, as well as extensive sports grounds and an agricultural area.

The college offers a holistic education. Academically, we consider ourselves second to none. It is in this regard that the college is proud to announce that one of our own pupils, Rachel Muyambo, recently received the Cambridge Learner Award as top of the world in travel and tourism.

Carly Kies was top in Zimbabwe in Mathematics in the June, 2013 AS Cambridge International Examination session and Krishan Rana was top in Zimbabwe in Physics in the same year. Such is the impressive academic record of our own pupils.

Rachel Muyambo (16) has world class academic credentials which we believe will open opportunities for her to find a rewarding career.

Hillcrest offers a wide range of sporting activities in which we strive for excellence. For the boys we have cricket, rugby, hockey, basketball, soccer and athletics. The girls take part in athletics, hockey, swimming, basketball, tennis, soccer and volleyball.

We have a vibrant cultural tradition. Our cultural activities include bridge, scripture union, debate, public speaking, drama, marimba, toastmasters, leo, interact, Hillcrest Can (cancer awareness) Choir, chess, sign language, first aid, environmental and art clubs. Our pupils go on school trips, expeditions and adventure camps for bonding and other relevant life skills.

Our mission is to provide pupils with every opportunity to achieve their personal best by using a broad academic and innovative curriculum whilst maintaining Christian values.
