Hippo win Independence tourney

HIPPO men were crowned this year’s Independence Cup knock-out tournament winners after defeating Hockey Club 7-6 on penalties at Sunrise Sports Club at the weekend. Hippo hockey proved once again that they are a powerful force in the indoor league. They faced tough opposition, including an underdog, Huskies 2nd team. But their skill and resolve saw them triumph. It was a sensational men’s final between Hippo Men and Hockey Club.

The game ended 3-3 and a tense penalty shoot-out ensued that spilled into sudden death. Brynn Lowe sealed the victory for Hippo Men, after a miss by Hockey Club.

Hippo claimed a double in the indoor league by winning both the league and the knock-out tournament with Hockey Club coming in as runners-up.

In the women’s section, Carguard, were in good form, storming through each game with relative ease.

Final: Men: Hockey Club 3, Hippo Men3.

Women: Scorpions 4, Carguard 9.
