Highlanders are unbeaten in 14 outings so far and lead the log table with 32 points, nine points ahead of the reigning champions Dynamos who nevertheless have three games in hand against Bosso, FC Platinum and city rivals Caps United while the fourth one is the replay against Hwange.
DeMbare chairman Kenny Mubaiwa has previously said they will not fulfil this fixture as they would rather have all the three points going to Hwange. But anyone who believes that can believe anything as three precious points thrown away could be the difference between the title and an empty cabinet at the end of the season.
For Tshilamoya, the match presents two golden opportunities, to beat Dynamos and crown themselves as the real kings of football this first half. The second opportunity would be to put a smile on treasurer Odiel Nkomo’s face as he walks to the bank on Monday. With the way Bosso have been playing, the double is not a far-fetched idea.
Statistics though, do not favour the Kelvin Kaindu coached black and white army, especially since 2006 when DeMbare fell just twice home and away but since then, the Highlanders supporters have not celebrated a victory over their archrivals.
Belief though among the Bosso faithfuls is that come Sunday, all that will be history.
On that year when Dynamos lost, Highlanders, under Methembe Ndlovu went on to win the league title but interestingly before the clash at Barbourfields Stadium, Highlanders had collected just four points from a possible points haul of nine, drawing 0-0 against Motor Action on Week 11, winning 3-1 over neighbours, Zimbabwe Saints before falling to a shock 1-0 home defeat to Buymore.
Dynamos on the other hand, had amassed nine points from a possible 12 and came to Bulawayo from an away 3-2 defeat to Hwange.
This year Highlanders should be wary of the fact that the Dynamos rearguard has conceded just a single goal in five matches but again Highlanders have hit the nets 15 times at Barbourfields in seven matches.
