A 40-year-old man from Dombodema in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South Province died in a suspected hit-and-run accident that took place last week, police have confirmed.

Police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Inspector Loveness Mangena said the incident happened between 8-9 January at the 29km peg along the Plumtree-Madlambuzi Road.

She identified the deceased as Mbonisi Msebele of Dombodema who is alleged to have been coming from Sevaka Business Centre with his friends.

She said when they reached the 29km peg they parted ways and as he was walking alone a suspected motorist hit Msebele and drove off without making a report.

“A passerby who got to the scene after the incident notified villagers about the issue. The case was reported immediately at the nearby police station and the body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary. The case is still under investigation and we are pleading with members of the public to work hand-in-hand with the police for any leads that will result in the arrest of the perpetrator,” said Insp Mangena.

She urged motorists to be cautious when driving and report all accidents to police as required by the law.
