AN HIV positive teacher at Gwanda’s Sitezi Primary School wept in court as she narrated how her husband continues to have extra-marital affairs.
An emotional Eunice Emelang Marupi, 40, who continuously wept in court, told magistrate Sheila Nazombe on Tuesday that she wanted a protection order against her “abusive and cheating” husband Chemistry Ndiweni who, she alleged, sometimes threatens to take her back to her parents’ home. Marupi claimed that her husband’s infidelity has become the talk of their neighbourhood.
“I am now living in fear of my husband and every time he comes home I develop a headache and even when I try to touch him. He threatens to assault and kill me and sometimes threatens to take me back to my parents’ home.
“My husband sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night to visit his girlfriends. I have told him to change his ways but he doesn’t and the whole village is talking about his affairs. Now I cannot live in my house because his girlfriends have planted things in my house so that I don’t live there. I am now staying at the clinic with my sister,” said Marupi.
She said she usually develops sores on her private parts but her husband would demand sex with her despite the pain. She said one of his girlfriends, Simangele sometimes openly brags about sleeping with Ndiweni. The accused denied the allegations levelled against him and urged his wife not to listen to “jealous rumour mongers”.
“The main issue here is about our HIV status. She doesn’t want to go to hospital but prefers visiting traditional healers,” he said.
Magistrate Nazombe refused to grant the protection order saying Marupi had failed to support her application. The magistrate said the two should seek the help of pastors or family members to resolve their matrimonial problems.
Marupi was ordered to seek proper medical attention instead of blaming other people for her ailments while Ndiweni was advised to show love to his wife.
