SPORTS and Recreation Minister Makhosini Hlongwane will travel to Lesotho on Sunday to give moral support to the Warriors in the second leg of the final African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier in Maseru. Zimbabwe carry a seemingly healthy 3-1 first leg lead and are favourites to dispatch the Likuena in their backyard, although coach Callisto Pasuwa is cautious.
Benson Dube, principal director in the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, said the minister will be cheering the Warriors. “As you know, the minister is a hands-on man, so he will be in Lesotho to give the much-needed moral support to the boys. He wants to be there when it happens,” said Dube.
A straight win by the Warriors or any loss other than a 2-0 score line will propel the Warriors to their fourth straight Chan tournament. Should the Likuena manage the impossible and win 3-1, the match will be decided by the dreaded penalty shootout. The Warriors have never missed a Chan tournament since its inaugural edition in Ivory Coast in 2009.
