THE Holiday Inn Hotel in Bulawayo threw a Christmas party for inmates at Entembeni Old People’s Home in Luveve.
The old people were treated to a sumptuous meal prepared by the hotel’s top chefs and served by waiters last Friday.
A management team from Holiday Inn mingled with the inmates, taking time to share stories and a dance with them.
The mouth watering meal was a feast fit for a king.
Fried rice, spaghetti bolognaise, roast potatoes, pickled beetroot salad, chicken sauce, traditional coleslaw, fish fruit salad, chocolate Swiss roll and chocolate profiteroles were part of the tasty meal.
The hotel decorated a room where they put a PA system and a DJ played golden oldies that took the old people down memory lane.
Khulu Denis Phiri (82) said he could not remember the last time he enjoyed himself so much.
“I’m humbled that they are people who think about us. Some of us have even been forgotten by our own families. I hope this day does not come to an end,” said Khulu Phiri.
Holiday Inn General Manager Mr Chiku Mulinde said: “Holiday Inn donated linen to Entembeni in October this year and that is when we realised that the old people here are lonely sometimes. That is why we are here, and we will be back to do greater things because we always remember our old people.”
Entembeni Director Mrs Jessica Matavire seemed overcome with emotion as she watched the elderly get into top gear festive mood.
