Holy Name Catholic Church in Mabelreign will host a community fun run and walk in April 2026 to confront the growing scourge of drug and substance abuse among youths and families, turning fitness into a rallying cry for resilience.

Under the theme “Don’t Let Drugs Steal Your Dreams,” the event blends sport, wellness, and advocacy while designed not only to raise awareness but also to provide practical support through free medical check-ups and counselling resources, making the run both a symbolic and tangible stand against addiction.

Speaking to Zimpapers today, fundraising team member Mr Kudzanai Mutarangani emphasised that the fun run is more than a recreational activity.

He said it is a deliberate effort to unite the community in protecting young people from destructive habits.

“This event is not only about running, it is about standing together as a community to protect our children and restore hope.

“We want families, schools, and churches to see this as a shared responsibility because when we act together, we can change the narrative around drugs,”he said.

In her sentiment, another fundraising member Ms Wadzanai Haarimwi highlighted the importance of inclusivity and sponsorship.

She said the success of the initiative depends on broad participation and support from all sectors.

“We encourage the whole community not just catholics to come through and be part of this important cause.

“Sponsors and partners can make a huge difference for every contribution help us reach more families and spread the message of prevention.”
