Edmore “Spanner” Chirambadare’s return to Chicken Inn is more than just another mid-season signing. It is the closing of a circle, a reunion between a club and one of its most beloved sons, a story of unfinished business and renewed purpose.
A decade after leaving Luveve for South African giants Kaizer Chiefs, the experienced winger is back in the yellow red and black colours that first propelled him into the spotlight. “This moment is surreal for me. Rejoining Chicken Inn FC is a coming back home moment, to inspire the youngsters, it’s a moment of reflecting and it brings many memories. Here I am at home and I assure the Gamecocks family, the Spanner is back,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official media platforms.

Chicken Inn was where “Spanner” transformed from an exciting lower-division talent into one of Zimbabwe’s most feared attacking players. His electrifying pace, fearless dribbling and eye for goal lit up the Premier Soccer League and helped the Gamecocks win their historic first league championship in 2015, a season in which he scored 11 league goals before earning his dream move to Kaizer Chiefs.
His South African adventure saw him wear the colours of Kaizer Chiefs before spells with several other clubs, collecting invaluable experience along the way. Now, at 34, he returns not just as the explosive winger supporters remember, but as a seasoned campaigner with lessons to pass on to the next generation.
For Chicken Inn supporters, the nickname “Spanner” carries special meaning. It reminds them of a player who could tighten loose ends in attack with moments of brilliance. His return offers hope that the Gamecocks can rediscover some of that cutting edge as they battle to climb the table.
