THE wait for the ultimate entertainment extravaganza is finally over, as the much anticipated Kalawa Homecoming 2015 gig roars to life today at Queens Sports Grounds in Bulawayo.
The gig promises to the best ever to be hosted in the city of kings and perhaps the entire country, as it features famous names as Zimbabwe’s very own Oskido, South Africa’s DJ Tira, Mafikizolo, Stiff, DJ Fresh, DJ Pepsi, rap rivals — Cassper Nyovest, and AKA.
This year’s main attraction is the Cassper and AKA rap battle, as the two have been going at each other for the greater part of the year.
Fans who spoke to Sunday Leisure said of the highly anticipated Nyovest and AKA’s performance.
“This will be the greatest show ever, the lineup is just fresh. I mean Cassper and AKA on the same stage, who would have guessed that their beef will be sorted in Zimbabwe,” said a fan.
AKA and Cassper’s beef started when Cassper released his hit Doc Shebeleza dissing AKA.
Cassper then took to twitter, after filling the dome telling fans the beef between AKA and himself was over.
He wrote: “We just need to keep pushing our own agenda,” he tweeted. “Let’’s let it go . . .” he added in tweets, which he later deleted.
But probably, deleting them was a sign that the beef was not over.
Their Zimbabwean fans eagerly wait to see how it will turn out tonight. The gig co-ordinator Vusumuzi Siqalaba warmly known as Mavusani said all was set for today’s show.
“I believe it will be the biggest show in Zimbabwe. I mean Cassper Nyovest and AKA have a huge following not only in South Africa, but in Africa as well. We tried to do something different this time around for the Homecoming show,” he said.
The Kalawa Homecoming gig will also be a platform for local smalltime hip-hop artistes to showcase their talent and perhaps pick a few pointers from the legends.
Since the Kalawa Homecoming concept was incepted in 2010 it has grown to be one of the biggest shows in Zimbabwe.
Mavusani said over the years revelers have complained of long winding queues and would definitely work towards sorting it out.
“I believe our small hip hop community will also get an opportunity to mix and mingle with AKA and Cassper Nyovest, learn a thing or two from them, and probably collaborate with them too. The two will definitely be the main attraction at this year’s show,” he said.
Local artistes such as Cal_vin, Mzoe 7, DJ Skaiva, Defined House, Scooby, DJ Liz, Khuxxman, DJ Sbago, and DJ Taunz will also be given an opportunity to showcase their talent.
The Kalawa homecoming was incepted in 2010 through a partnership between Oskido and Mavusani.
