THE Zimbabwe team that participated in the 2024 Homeless World Cup in South Korea is expected back in the country today.

They were among 48 countries who took part in the competition and they left a mark at the global event after winning against Denmark in the final of the D’Live Cup (Tier 4) in Seoul.

Goalkeeper Linnet Moyo was awarded the best goalkeeper accolade.

Moyo captained the Homeless World Cup Zimbabwe, a mixed-team with four male players.

Team official and Young Achievement Sports for Development Project director Petros Chatiza said they have had a fruitful outing.

“We are coming back on Tuesday (today), in the afternoon,” he said ahead of their departure from the Asian country.

He revealed that the tournament was an eye-opening encounter for the players as it created many opportunities for them.

“I think the tournament enables the players to create long-lasting friendships and gives them new resolve for life as they also get to see that the challenges they face in life are not unique to Zimbabwe but are also found across the world.

“The event creates opportunities for them as it has done for players before them,” he said.

Chatiza praised Moyo for her resilience which made her shine brightest at the expense of the boys. He said Moyo was an inspiration for many young women.

“Her resilience and determination are an inspiration to many young women all over the world. She won the award in the men’s category.

“We are very grateful to Honourable Sakupwanya through Betterbrands for supporting the travel of the team.”

A big welcome party is slated for the team.
