A 19-YEAR-OLD car theft suspect has been caged after allegedly going on a five-month stealing spree targeting mostly Honda Fit vehicles in and around Victoria Falls.
Leeroy Mengezi of Monde Village is now facing the music at the Victoria Falls Magistrates’ Court where he has been slapped with 10 serious charges; seven counts of car theft, two of aggravated unlawful entry and one charge of escaping lawful custody.
According to a bulletin from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the teen terror allegedly operated between October 2024 and March 2025, breaking into homes and stealing cars, cash, flash drives and car radios.
“Mengezi would abandon the stolen vehicles after stripping them of valuables,” the State alleges.
The court heard that in March, while under police custody, Mengezi faked illness to stage a daring escape — but his freedom was short-lived. He was re-arrested on 5 May 2025.
His bail application was denied and he’s now cooling his heels behind bars while waiting for trial on 13 May.
Some of the stolen loot has been recovered.
