Hornets edge Western Suburbs to top standings

IN what was the match of the day on week three of the Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board (BMRFB) Under-20 League, Christian Brothers College (CBC) Hornets edged Western Suburbs Academy to go on top of the league standings on Saturday at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds.

The match lived up to expectations on and off the field as Hornets won a closely contested encounter 15-14 to go five points clear at the top with 15 points from three matches played so far in the season.

Both teams were on 10 points going into the much anticipated match. Western Suburbs Academy remained with the same number of points and fell to second position after suffering their first defeat of the season.

In other matches played on the day, Highlanders proved strong for a Select side after winning 7-0 while Bulldogs registered the biggest win of the week with a 53-0 victory over Plumtree Buffaloes. The match which preceded the top of the table clash was between Raging Bulls and Old Miltonians (OMs) which the former won 22-0.

After the completion of the third round and the top two being Hornets and Western Suburbs Academy, Raging Bulls maintain third position with 10 points from two matches. Bulldogs have moved to fourth place with their first win of the season while OMs and Plumtree Buffaloes remain winless. — @brandon_malvin
