Parents with children that have cleft lip and cleft palate conditions have been implored to take advantage of this week’s ongoing free craniofacial surgeries for cleft lip as well as cleft palate up to Friday at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.

Chief Medical Officer for Sally Mugabe Central Hospital Dr Christopher Pasi said these corrective surgeries in children can be done outside the ongoing camp but it is paramount to take advantage of the camp as specialists converge to attend to such conditions only.

The free surgical camps are in line with President Mnangagwa’s strategic vision of ensuring that no one is left behind in healthcare access.

Dr Pasi said the screening of those who would be assisted was done over the weekend but assured that those who did not get the chance to be screened can still come and get assisted.

“The screening was done during the weekend and surgeries have started in earnest this week,” said Dr Pasi.

“We have been able to assist many children with these unfortunate birth defects and we encourage parents with children who have this condition to come in and get assistance because these conditions can be corrected.

“This is an intensified programme and usually we are able to assist many children so we encourage as many to come and take advantage of the camp,” said Dr Pasi.
