SALLY Mugabe Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals have received US$26 000 from Nedbank Zimbabwe to purchase neonatal incubators as a way of boosting neonatal care in the country.
The two hospitals received US$13 000 each after Nedbank Zimbabwe held its annual Harare Golf Day at the Royal Harare Golf Club early this month.
This came as part of the banking group’s national customer service week, held from October 3 to 7 2022.
Dr Sibongile Moyo, Nedbank Zimbabwe managing director, said the golf day was an important initiative as it is the bank’s way of thanking its clients.
“This year’s golf theme was centred around Nedbank’s community development activities and showcased the various activities it has embarked on through the year,” she said.
“Nedbank realised the need to meet the growing demand for incubators at Zimbabwean hospitals and presented two cheques to the combined value of US$26 000 to United Bulawayo Hospitals and Sally Mugabe Hospital, to purchase neonatal incubators.”
Matron Nhlanhla Maphona from United Bulawayo Hospitals said they felt honoured and humbled to be receiving such a huge donation from Nedbank.
“You know, when half the time you hear the word ‘bank’, you think about money and figures. But the fact that you have reached out to the health sector, thinking of big hospitals, is going to cover a huge gap to help us render quality care to our patients,” she said.
Sally Mugabe Hospital clinical director Hopewell Mungani echoed the same sentiments and was grateful for the donation.
Dr Moyo said the bank was funding some key initiatives, such as supporting Zimbabwe’s national rugby team, enabling young rugby players to gain experience and receive exposure at local rugby tournaments, as well as in South Africa’s Currie Cup.
She said they also supported the Sables under-20 team which came second in a Canadian series and four of their young players who were signed to clubs in France.
“As a purpose-led organisation, Nedbank continues to aspire to do good in various ways. This year, we have themed our golf day around “celebrating our communities”, you are the communities who give so much to us as a business and in whose backyard we operate,” said Dr Moyo.
