Hotel cashier cover-up ploy flops

A 23-YEAR-OLD Halfway Hotel cashier in Gwayi has been sentence to a year in jail for stealing $1 200 and covering up the act by making a false report to police of an armed robbery.

Annacletah Ncube from 10 Buffalo Avenue in Dete employed at the hotel pleaded guilty to theft and obstruction of justice when she appeared before Hwange magistrate Sheron Rosimani.

Ncube said she committed the crime in order to take care of her crippled mother as well as to pay for an accounting programme because she had only received her April 2016 salary this month.

Representing the state, Lindiwe Maseko, said that on September 19, this year, at around 9.40pm , Ncube proceeded to ZRP Gwayi and filed an armed robbery report which had occurred at her workplace around 5PM trying to cover up for a shortfall of $1 200 from her daily cash receivables.

a�?Investigations carried out by detectives unearthed the cover up by Ncube and she was subsequently arrested,a�? said Maseko.

Three months of her sentence was suspended for three years, and a further nine was scrapped for 315 hours community service at Sir Roy Welensky Primary School in Dete effective 26 September, 2016.
