A 24-YEAR-OLD housemaid from Greendale, Harare, has appeared in court on allegations of stealing her employer’s necklace valued at US$1 800.

Sharon Bande was facing theft of trust property charges when she appeared before a Harare magistrate.

The complainant in this case is Johanna Makurumidze.

Prosecutor Mrs Grace Magocheke told the court that sometime in July 2026 the complainant asked Bande to help her put on her rose and black diamond necklace and she failed to do so.

The complainant then went out and left the necklace with Bande for safekeeping.

The court heard that on September 26 2026, the complainant wanted to go out; she asked Bande to bring the necklace, and she failed to do so, stating that the complainant’s 8-year-old son had broken it.

The complainant asked Bande to bring the broken pieces, but she again failed to do so. The complainant then reported the matter to the police, leading to Bande’s arrest.

The total value stolen is US$1 800 and nothing has been recovered.
