THE Tantallon Estates housing scheme is taking shape as contractors lay out the services, while President Mnangagwa is expected to commission it soon, Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe has said.
Known as Nyore Nyore Housing Scheme, the project was launched recently by property development firm, Pinnacle Properties.
It is part of many schemes, public and private, that are supporting the Second Republic’s goal of providing affordable shelter for all citizens.
Once successfully launched in Mashonaland East, the scheme will expand to other provinces across the country.
On Monday, Minister Garwe led a tour of the Nyore Nyore Housing stands in Manyame District, alongside Pinnacle Property Holdings Ltd.
Local company, Bitumen World, has been contracted to construct essential infrastructure, including roads and drainage systems. The development is following the law with all services set to be in place before stands can be sold or buildings erected.
In an interview, Minister Garwe confirmed the imminent commissioning of the project by President Mnangagwa.
He detailed an agreement with Pinnacle Properties to sell 20 000 stands to the Government for civil servants.
“We have now taken over the responsibility of supervising the works,” Minister Garwe noted, emphasising the need for collaboration between Government engineers and those from Bitumen World.
While expressing satisfaction with the progress, he acknowledged that the project was not yet fully visible to the public, but was meaningful to those in the construction industry.
Chairman of the Nyore Nyore Housing Scheme Dr Phillip Chiyangwa reiterated the vision behind the project, highlighting the Second Republic’s commitment to improving lives through housing.
“We are providing 250 000 units, including stands, flats, and business centres,” he said, indicating that there will be opportunities for the public beyond civil servants to apply for housing.
Dr Chiyangwa emphasised that the decision to launch this project stemmed from the necessity to aid home-seekers struggling with available purchasing terms from various land developers.
“Our terms are amenable, and we believe we have a role in nation-building through contributing to housing delivery in Zimbabwe,” he said.
This initiative is poised to significantly impact housing availability in the country, aligning with national development goals.
