My siblings and I grew up in Glen View and we used to attend church in Kambuzuma area by foot.
Each Sunday, we would walk a distance of almost seven kilometres to church, through the yet to be developed area, which was to become Budiriro 3 location and past what was to become High Glen Shopping Centre years later.
Although my fellow little siblings and I loved going to church so much and couldn’t wait each week for Sunday to come, there was just one thing we hated and dreaded about it.
It was the long winding walk and particularly the very steep slope up the flyover along High Glen Road.
Quite recently, my siblings and I were reflecting on our childhood experiences and the flyover slope became the centre of discussion.
Comically, we all agreed that the slope that was so difficult and insurmountable to us in those days had significantly changed to a mere gentle incline that was even enjoyable to walk along.
But we knew the slope and the terrain had not changed at all, it is us who had. Because we had shifted in growth, what was once an intimidating climb had reduced to just an effortless stroll.
Similarly, do you recall a time when we were in primary school and we were made to believe that a number cannot be subtracted from a smaller number?
The answer was simply “it can’t”. It was only when we got to secondary level when we were shown a new perspective where the “it can’t” was now a possibility.
What had changed here? The numbers? No. Our capacity of understanding had.
In that perspective, have you ever noticed how some people are floored down by challenges that others simply tread upon?
Don’t you agree with me that, it all boils down to one’s level and their current capacity in dealing with such matters? Some are still in the “it can’t” zone, more like children who cannot walk up some slopes with the same capability of grown-ups.
Instead of being mocked and degraded, for their inability to solve challenges, these people need to be treated with love, care and patience.
In the same manner, you may be going through a persistent challenge and you may now be feeling weak, troubled, exhausted and drained, devoid of inner joy and peace.
If your life terrain feels like a very tiring and insurmountable uphill tread, it is time for a transfusion.
Those difficulties are pointers that you need more guidance and more wisdom so that you grow to a stature, which allows you to tread your upward life slopes with ease.
Sir Isaac Newton once wrote, “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.” You see, how big your problem is not as important as how big you are!
The only way we can grow in that dimension is through learning.
The solution to your problem may be contained in a book, a seminar, that YouTube video, in that sermon or in the experienced individual in your family or community.
When you engage in such effective learning processes, you get lifted up to heights bigger than the height of your challenge.
It is also greatly important to realise that no matter how much men may want to lift you up, they can only do so to the extent of their own capability.
And yet there is One whose strength, wisdom and capacity far surpasses that of men. He is our very own Creator, the Almighty bearer of infinite wisdom. We are told to cast our burdens unto Him for He cares.
If therefore we surrender to Him, He can lift us up to lofty heights where problems will just be tiny little dots.
In the end, you will realise that it is neither how big the problem is, nor in essence, how big you can be …it is how big God is in your life!
