The “Show Dem” rapper beat 13 other contestants, including six local celebrities such as Live and YFM presenter Bonang Matheba, Khanyi Mbau, comic Loyiso Gola and former Miss South Africa Tatum Keshwar, for the reality TV competition which took place in Phuket, Thailand.
The contestants took part in various activities, including racing on tuk-tuks.
In another task, they were dressed in chicken suits and had to make their way through town on a treasure hunt to locate three gold Tropika bottles before crossing the winning line.
“R1 million is not a lot of money. But, for me it’s very serious, I’ve got things to do. I’ve cars and a house to pay for. I’m also giving the three ladies (who made it to the top four) R50 000 each.”
He beat three female rivals – Thandeka Steenkamp, Dionne Song and Latoya Ragebult.
The competition was launched on August 1 last year and by December JR had already won the cash, but TV being TV, the winner couldn’t be revealed until the show’s finale on e.tv on Sunday.
