GOLD miners How Mine are on the verge of sealing a deal with championship winning coach Rahman Gumbo to take charge of the club next season.

How Mine parted ways with Luke Masomere in September after a string of poor results despite investing heavily in players.

They haven’t won a game under caretaker coaches Sheunesu Chaka and Jeremiah Makota.

While the gold miners’ chairman Alpha Matumbura could not give a definite answer on the imminent arrival of Gumbo, highly placed sources said the two parties were now left with just a few minor loose ends to tie.

“At the moment we just want to concentrate on these three remaining league matches and the cup games and then when the season is over, we will start talking to people,” said Matumbura.

How Mine lie 11th on the table with 34 points and need just a point to be certain of survival.

“We are sure we will survive relegation and as such, we don’t want to distract the guys, both the coaches and players.”

An impeccable source though said Gumbo, who left Botswana’s Gaborone United, apparently after being lured by the miners, was their man.

“Clearly which club executive would ignore Gumbo? He is without doubt a top coach, not only in the country, but the region as a whole,” said the source.

The source said they initially wanted to have the former Highlanders’ coach starting work this weekend during the NetOne Easycall Cup, but thought otherwise.

Efforts to get a comment from Gumbo, who has a championship medal in Malawi in addition to the two he won with his boyhood team Highlanders, were not successful yesterday as he was said to have gone to Botswana on business.

Gumbo also had stints with local clubs, Shooting Stars, Caps United, Motor Action and FC Platinum.
